iOS Engineer
Otto is a React Native app built with Expo, shipping on iOS against a Supabase backend. You would work across the whole product — import, cook mode, the week planner, the shopping list — rather than on one corner of it.
What you’d do
- Build and ship features end to end, from the data layer to the screen.
- Own the release path: TestFlight builds, App Store submissions, and what goes in them.
- Keep the app fast and tolerant of a bad kitchen connection.
- Work directly with design rather than at the end of a handover.
What we’re looking for
- Production experience with React Native, ideally on Expo.
- Comfort dropping into native iOS when the framework runs out.
- A real bar for performance and accessibility, not an afterthought.
- You cook. It shows in the details you notice.
Product Designer
Otto's design system spans a Figma library and a token file the site and app both read from. You would own that system and the flows built on it, across the app and this website.
What you’d do
- Design flows end to end — not screens in isolation.
- Own the design system and keep Figma variables and the CSS tokens in step.
- Prototype interactions where a static frame cannot answer the question.
- Sit close to engineering through build, not just before it.
What we’re looking for
- Mobile product work you have shipped and can talk through.
- Systems thinking — components and tokens, not one-off screens.
- Strong typographic craft; this is a typography-led product.
- Comfortable working code-adjacent, reading a diff without fear.
Illustrator, Otto & food art
Otto the otter carries the brand — in the app's empty states, its onboarding, and across this site. The food illustration sits alongside real photography and has to hold its own next to it.
What you’d do
- Illustrate Otto in new states, poses and scenes as the product grows.
- Produce food and ingredient art in the established painted style.
- Keep the character consistent across every context he appears in.
- Deliver production-ready assets at the sizes screens actually need.
What we’re looking for
- A warm, painterly style — a portfolio that shows it, not a description of it.
- Character consistency across a body of work.
- Experience preparing illustration for screen, not only for print.
Recipe & Content Editor
Every recipe Otto ships and every line of copy around it. This role owns accuracy — of the cooking, of the nutrition estimates, and of what the product claims about itself.
What you’d do
- Test, edit and maintain the recipes Otto ships with.
- Write and maintain product copy in the app and on this site.
- Keep nutrition estimates and source attribution honest and correctly labelled.
- Hold the line on tone: plain, specific, never overstated.
What we’re looking for
- Real cooking experience — you have written recipes people have followed.
- Editorial precision and a willingness to cut your own copy.
- Care about the difference between an estimate and a measurement.
